This photography safari tour is aimed at some of Kenya's unique wildlife at two top locations and staying at two high end lodges located within the best location for the wildlife on our doorstep. This is a trip i have cover before and will not disappoint.

Wildlife we are looking to photograph are White Rhino, Black Rhino, Rothschild's giraffe, Leopard, Lion, Grévy's zebra,  Somali ostrich, Gerenuk, Beisa Oryx, Golden Jackal, and plenty more wildlife along with over 50 different birds and Raptors, Leopard and Lions can be a bit harder to find, plenty of large Elephants roam Samburu.

Samburu has an abundance of other rare species like Striped hyena, the African civet and African Wild dog or Painted hunting dogs, Cheetah, Genets of which three are known to occur in Kenya.

The large-spotted genet, the small spotted genet and the forest genet. We will be lucky to see both the large and the small genets at our stay at Samburu game lodge where they will come to the dining table for scapes at night.

Lake Nakuru offers both Black and White Rhino with the Black Rhino begging harder to find, Rothschild's giraffe are at both locations, Golden Jackals and Striped hyena are at both locations but rare.

Your first 2 nights will be spent at Lake Nakuru lodge with its own waterhole it's not unusual to see White Rhinos taking a drink.

Your next 5 nights will be at Samburu game lodge, here we can feed the Genets, at the lodge due to its located on the river, each night they feed the crocodiles from a platform which they lay waiting on the sandy bank for a snack.

Your itinerary

Early morning departure from Edinburgh airport on the 26th Sept to with connecting flight from Amsterdam and arriving Nairobi international airport around 22.00pm. Once cleared visa control and collected our luggage head outside where our own shuttle mini bus will be waiting to transfer us to Crowne Plaza hotel for our overnight stay. Each guest will be escorted to their hotels souperior rooms, you may want to freshen up and pop downstairs to the all night bar where they do a great pizza or maybe head straight to bed and get a good night's sleep.

Next morning head downstairs for a full breakfast before checking out, our drivers and our 2 4x4s  will meet us outside or you can sit in the lobby till they arrive. Once boarded in our 7 seater land cruisers these will be ours for the full trips, 3 persons in each 4x4 so plenty of room.

We now hit the busy Kenyan road and head to Lake Nakuru taking in all the sights and sounds of Africa traveling through the small roadside villages, we will stop for freshen up break and grab a good Kenyan coffee or cold drink before we hit the road again. We should arrive at Lake Nakuru around 13.30 and settled into our lodge accommodation, unpack and get some lunch. After lunch we will head out for our first safari with Rhinos as our target. We will arrive back at the lodge at sunset quick shower and head for our evening meal. The next morning up early around 6am for a quick coffee breakfast snack and head of for a full days safari with our luncheon picnic boxes and arriving back to the Lodge at sunset in time to freshen up download all you images and head for your evening meal. After each evening meal you are welcome to sit outside for drink take in the night sounds or watch the masai warriors performing their dance.

This morning we have breakfast check out of Nakuru lodge and head north, this is a long drive taking you though some of the best views in Kenya, we will stop a couple of times to freshen up and have a break. We should arrive at Samburu game lodge late afternoon depending on traffic we may have time for a late game drive,  we will now spend the next 5 nights at the lodge with full day game drives covering all areas of Samburu photographing many unique species.  The reserve is rich in wildlife abundance in rare northern specialist species such as the Grevy Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx Also referred as Samburu Special. Samburu National Reserve is situated at the southeastern corner of Samburu District in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. It is bordered to the south by Ewaso Nyiro River, which separates it from the Buffalo Springs National Reserve. We will spend a day driving around Buffalo springs for wildlife here it can be very dry with the odd camel walking about, if we are lucky we may come across wild dogs which are very rare but every now and then they pop up roaming the Samburu hills. Genets are around our lodge and do come to the dining hall for a free snack it's possible to to get some video or photos, large numbers of Elephants roam the area and this is one of a very few locations where Elephants have a migration in very hot and dry weather also the big bulls come down from the hills looking for females.

On the last day after breakfast we will check out of the lodge and head back to Nairobi, it's a long drive so we will take in the views back, a pack picnic lunch will be provided, a couple of stops on way  time to freshen up and eat, once we reach Nairobi we will head direct to our day rooms at the Eka hotel where you will have your own room to freshen up and get ready for your evening meal which is included, we then check out and board our mini bus and head to the airport for our night flights home.
